Activity Coefficients at Infinite Dilution

Authors: J. Gmehling, D. Tiegs, A. Medina, M. Soares, J. Bastos, P. Alessi, I. Kikic, M. Schiller, J. Menke

Knowledge of activity coefficients at dilution is essential for the development of new thermodynamic models for solutions and allows the evaluation of the capability of a solvent in extractive or azeotropic distillation processes as well as in liquid-liquid extraction. This work brings together in convenient form the most compehensive collection of meansured activity coefficients at infinite dilution currently available. The authors have surveyed the literature up to the end of 1993. Approximately 29.000 sets of activity coefficients are reproduced. Substances covered include nonpolymeric organic compounds such as paraffins, olefins, alcohols, ketones and esters, as well as water. The data are given for binary systems (solute in pure solvent); the temperature ranges covered are such that the temperature is always at least 40°C below the critical temperature of the solute.
