1. The medal carries the name Otto Roelen Medal of DECHEMA.
2. The medal is engraved on the rim with the following sentence: ‘Donated by OXEA GmbH in the year ...’
3. The Otto Roelen Medal is granted for exceptional scientific achievements in the entire field of catalysis, particularly in relation to applied technology.
The award winner is expected to publish a paper related to the field of work for which the award is awarded, in connection with the award ceremony.
4. The medal is typically awarded every two years. Achievements that have been reported in publications or lectures will be considered.
The documents submitted to the expert committee must include:
- a detailed justification for the nomination,
- the curriculum vitae/professional career of the nominee,
- and a list of publications and patents.
The expert committee may also consider all other published works by the candidates.
5. The medal will be presented at a public ceremony.
6. The award consists of
a) the Otto-Roelen medal,
b) a certificate and
c) a cash prize of €5,000.
7. The decision regarding the awarding of the medal will be made by the Expert Committee for the Otto Roelen Medal, which may consult additional experts if necessary. The Chairman of DECHEMA will appoint the Expert Committee, which will consist of three experts from industry and three from academia. The following individuals will be appointed as experts based on their positions:
a) the Chairman of the Commission of the German Society for Catalysis,
b) a representative of OXEA GmbH.
8. The decision of the Expert Committee for the Otto Roelen Medal is final. No appeal, in particular legal action, is possible.
9. The awarding of the medal will be announced in specialist journals as well as in national and international newspapers.
10. Nominations may be submitted by any individual. Self-nominations are not permitted. The award is advertised internationally. Nominations must be submitted by the specified deadline. The call for nominations will be distributed through:
