Evans Award is the premier scientific award of the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) and is awarded annually in recognition of outstanding contributions to corrosion science and engineering. The award is in the form of an engraved sword and is presented at the annual Corrosion Science Symposium of ICorr.

Prof. Michael Schütze is Chairman of the Executive Board of DECHEMA-Forschungsinstitut in Frankfurt am Main/Germany and Head of the High Temperature Materials Research Group. He joined the Institute in 1978 after graduating from the University of Erlangen-Nurnberg with a Diploma in Materials Science and completed a PhD at the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH) in 1983. His research interests include high temperature corrosion, mechanical properties of surface scales and coatings, interaction of corrosion and creep, development and investigation of protective coatings, intermetallics and the beneficial halogen effect for Al-containing alloys. He is Professor of High Temperature Materials at the Georesources and Material Technology Faculty of the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH).

Prof. Schütze is also the recipient of the Cavallaro Medal from the European Federation of Corrosion (2010), the Otto-von-Guericke Award of the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (2004) and the Rahmel-Schwenk Medal of the German Society for Corrosion Protection (2000).
