We invite you to put forward your nominations for three awards: the prestigious Alwin Mittasch Prize, the Jochen Block Prize, and the Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner Doctoral Prize. These awards are endowed with 10,000, 3,000 and 1,000 Euros respectively and intended for scientists working in the field of catalysis. The prizes will be presented at the 60. Jahrestreffen Deutscher Katalytiker in Weimar, Germany in March 2027.
Nominations for the 2027 catalysis awards can be submitted until 13 September 2026.
Please note that self-nominations are not accepted.
Scientists who have made significant contributions to applied catalysis research are invited to be nominated for the Alwin Mittasch Prize, which is endowed with a prize of 10,000 Euros.
DECHEMA and the German Catalysis Society (GeCatS) encourage the nomination of internationally established researchers who have made significant contributions to advancing the scientific foundations of catalysis and to its exemplary industrial application. The prize is generously sponsored by BASF SE.
The Alwin Mittasch Prize was established by BASF in 1990, originally as the Alwin Mittasch Medal. It is named after Alwin Mittasch, a pioneer in catalysis research and developer of the first catalyst for ammonia synthesis.
The Jochen Block Prize, presented by the German Catalysis Society (GeCatS), aims to support young scientists in the field of catalysis.
This prize recognizes the research and development efforts of young scientists who have not yet been appointed to a permanent professorship and are generally under the age of 40. Eligible work should focus on fundamental investigations in catalysis and demonstrate scientific originality.
The prize is endowed with 3,000 Euros and sponsored by Clariant Produkte (Deutschland) GmbH. It is named in honor of the founding member and first chairman of the DECHEMA Catalysis Section.

The Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner Doctoral Prize, awarded by the German Catalysis Society (GeCatS), aims to support young scientists. This award, which comes with a prize of 1,000 Euros, will be presented for the second time in 2027 during the 60. Jahrestreffen Deutscher Katalytiker in Weimar, Germany.
The prize recognizes outstanding research in the field of catalysis that is part of a doctoral thesis completed at a German university or research institution. Emphasis is placed on scientific originality, the quality of the thesis, and the technical and scientific advancements achieved.
This prize is sponsored by Heraeus Precious Metals GmbH and is named after the pioneer of the modern periodic table and catalysis.
