Exhibitors and visitors at ACHEMA have not allowed the economic crisis to deter them: two days after the Opening, the organizers of this world chemical engineering summit issued a highly upbeat interim result. Despite the tough business environ-ment, the rush of visitors brought figures up 1 % higher than in 2006 in the first two days, moreover with about 3,800 exhibitors on 134,000 m² the exhibition has main-tained the level of the previous event.
“This shows that our branches are unfazed by the crisis: we are banking on innovations and looking ahead“, said Dr. Kurt Wage-mann, Deputy Chief Executive of DECHEMA e.V., which organizes ACHEMA. At ACHEMA cutting-edge trends from research and technology both in and for the chemical industry, food and pharmaceutical technology and related branches are presented and discussed. This year the share of foreign exhibitors has exceeded 46 %, and there is a record-breaking number of international visitors. The Congress Programme with over 900 lectures is receiving resounding acclaim. One particular attraction was the highly controversial panel discussion on Green Gene Technology on Monday, featuring Federal Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel and BASF Execu-tive Director Stefan Marcinowski, among others. In this context, Wagemann an-nounced that the scientific discussion between proponents and opponents would continue at DECHEMA directly after ACHEMA.
