The MDKL 2025 course was successfully conducted as a four-day block event from 29 September to 2 October 2025, attracting a balanced group of participants, primarily PhD candidates and Master’s students, including several international students pursuing their academic careers at German universities.
The program covered a comprehensive overview of catalysis, including:
- Introduction to catalysis
- Heterogeneous, homogeneous, and biocatalysis
- Photo- and electrocatalysis
- Industrial catalysis, featuring lectures from hte GmbH and BASF SE
- Emerging concepts and data management in catalysis
In addition to the scientific program, students were introduced to the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC), which will play a significant role in shaping the chemical industry in central Germany and provide substantial research and career opportunities for young scientists. Furthermore, participants learned about NFDI4Cat – the National Research Data Infrastructure for Catalysis, and its relevance for the digitalization of catalysis research.
To foster communication and networking, each student delivered a short flash presentation (max. 3 minutes) to introduce themselves and their research, followed by a networking event and BBQ at the Distille student club of the Faculty of Chemistry.
