Resources and Processes for Material Conversion Section

The Resources and Processes for Material Conversion specialist section is dedicated to material flows and process chains for sustainable industrial production, from the provision of raw materials and high-temperature technology production processes to waste management and closing material cycles.

Raw materials management includes the process chains and the entire cycle of raw materials through extraction, preparation, processing and the various forms of use and reuse.

High-temperature processes and their integration into the process and value chains of industrial production enable the use of a wide range of primary and secondary raw materials and waste. They thus fulfill an essential prerequisite for closing material cycles in the sense of the circular economy and thermodynamically enable the activation of CO2 to return carbon to the material cycle.

The waste and circular economy and the process engineering of the associated treatment processes bring waste streams back into the production cycle, taking into account the resources as well as the characterization, collection and forecasting of the generation of municipal, commercial and industrial waste streams. The scientific and technical work of the Resources and Material Conversion Processes Section contributes to the implementation of the EU's Green Deal, which brings together the tasks of the energy transition and the circular economy and thus combines the objectives of a climate-neutral and resource-efficient industry with the lowest possible environmental impact.
