The Munich Residenz served as the seat of government and residence of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings from 1508 to 1918, and began in 1385 as a castle. The architecture, interior decoration and works of art collected in the Residenz range in time from the Renaissance, via the early Baroque and Rococo periods to the neoclassical era. The Munich Residenz is located in the centre of the city and can easily be reached by public transport. U-tram station nearby the Residenz: U3-U6 "Odeonsplatz" - see map. Entrance from Hofgarten or Residenzstrasse into the Kaiserhof (Emperor's Court), to the Kaisersaal (Emperor's Hall) and the adjoining Vierschimmelsaal (Four Greys Room) on the first floor. |
