Nominate candidates for the 2026 Catalysis Awards

You have the opportunity to submit nominations for three awards: the prestigious Otto Roelen Medal, the Jochen Block Prize, and the newly established Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner Doctoral Prize. These awards are endowed with prize money of 5,000, 3,000 and 1,000 Euros respectively and intended for scientists working in the field of catalysis. The prizes will be presented at the 59. Jahrestreffen Deutscher Katalytiker in Weimar / Germany in March 2026.

Nominations for the 2026 catalysis awards can be submitted until September 14th, 2025. Please note that self-nominations are not permitted.

Otto Roelen Medal

Scientists who have made significant contributions to applied catalysis research are invited to be nominated for the Otto Roelen Medal, which is endowed with a prize of 5,000 Euros.

The Otto Roelen Medal will be awarded for the 16th time in 2026. DECHEMA and the German Catalysis Society (GeCatS) encourage nomination of international candidates who have excelled in their scientific achievements across all areas of catalysis with practical applications. The medal is generously sponsored by OXEA.

Established in 1997 at the initiative of Hoechst AG, the Otto Roelen Medal honors Otto Roelen, the discoverer of hydroformylation. Initially, the award focused solely on homogeneous catalysis, but it is now open to all fields of catalysis.

Jochen Block Prize

The Jochen Block Prize, presented by the German Catalysis Society (GeCatS), aims to support young scientists in the field of catalysis.

This prize recognizes the research and development efforts of young scientists who have not yet been appointed to a permanent professorship and are generally under the age of 40. Eligible work should focus on fundamental investigations in catalysis and demonstrate scientific originality.

The prize is endowed with 3,000 Euros and sponsored by Clariant. It is named in honor of the founding member and first chairman of the DECHEMA Catalysis Section.

Please note: This call is announced exclusively in German. For more information about previous winners, award guidelines, and how to submit nominations, please visit: https://dechema.de/JochenBlock2026.html

Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner Doctoral Prize

The newly established Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner Doctoral Prize, awarded by the German Catalysis Society (GeCatS), aims to support young scientists. This award, which comes with a prize of 1,000 Euros, will be presented for the first time in 2026 during the 59. Jahrestreffen Deutscher Katalytiker in Weimar.

The prize recognizes outstanding research in the field of catalysis that is part of a doctoral thesis completed at a German university or research institution. Emphasis is placed on scientific originality, the quality of the thesis, and the technical and scientific advancements achieved.

This prize is sponsored by Heraeus and is named after the pioneer of the modern periodic table and catalysis. Further information
