17th International Conference on Carbon Dioxide Utilization - ICCDU 2019

Satellite Event Kopernikus P2X Day

24 June 2019

The "Kopernikus Projekte für die Energiewende" were launched in order to successfully restructure the German energy system. Together with science, industry and civil society, technological solutions for the energy system transformation from research to implementation are to be developed. The aim of the Kopernikus project P2X “Exploration, Validation and Implementation of Power-to-X concepts” is to develop solutions that use renewable energy to produce physical energy storages, energy sources and chemical products for applications in the lead industrial markets of energy, transport and chemicals in an economical, flexible and socially compatible manner.
The project is designed to run for 10 years (total funding volume 100 million Euro) and is divided into three phases. In the first funding phase, scientific-technical concepts with a high innovation potential will be addressed within 6 research clusters (48 partners from academia, industry and civil society) and their potential investigated with regard to the fields of application energy, transport and chemistry.
The research clusters are divided into two groups; in the research clusters A 1-3 "Electrolysis" the available electrical energy is used to produce basic materials for P2X process chains, which are then further processed into chemical energy carriers and products in the research clusters B 1-3 “Catalysis".
