2nd Talk: 12 November 2020, 15-16h
3rd Talk: 19 November 2020, 15-16.15h

CHEM|ampere aims to develop technologies for the sustainable CO2-neutral production of chemicals. The concept of this research initiative is based on the use of renewable electricity as a secondary energy form to activate the non-fossil and readily available raw materials CO2, H2O, O2 and N2. CHEM|ampere focuses on three electrical production technologies:

  • plasma processes
  • electrolysis processes
  • electrically heated reactors

In this series of online events, experts will present and discuss the approaches and goals of the initiative.

CHEM|ampere was established at the University of Stuttgart on 1 January 2020 and includes ten research projects which will be connected and expanded. The initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to achieve the CO2 reduction goals set by the Federal Government's Climate Protection Plan 2030 and the current resolutions of the Climate Cabinet. All sectors - including the chemical industry - must achieve a 55% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030 compared to the reference year 1990. Even though the chemical industry has already achieved considerable CO2 reductions, there is still a long way to go before production will be largely CO2-neutral in 2050.
