This award aims to promote emerging talent, encourage interdisciplinary research, and facilitate enduring international collaborations. Therefore, eligible candidates should be employed at academic institutions in EU countries or associated states, typically not exceeding the age of 40. Candidates are expected to have completed their Ph.D. no more than 12 years prior. Moreover, any appointment to a permanent position should have occurred within the past three years. Exceptionally, the award may be granted to scientists working in Germany, provided that the aspects of promoting young talent, interdisciplinarity, and internationalization are thoroughly justified.
The recipient(s) of the award will be invited to give scientific presentations on their research at a minimum of three different locations in Germany, ideally following the Biochemistry 2024 conference of the GDCh Specialist Group Biochemistry, which will be held from September 30th to October 2nd, 2024, in Dortmund.
The lectureship is equally funded by the DECHEMA Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, the German Pharmaceutical Society (DPhG), the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM), and the German Chemical Society (GDCh) with a total sum of 2000 EUR. The jury consists of the board members of the Joint Working Group Chemical Biology of the four societies.

Die Chemical Biology Lectureship wird als Auszeichnung an jüngere Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler vergeben, die sich durch besonders kreative oder interessante Forschungsansätze im Bereich der Chemischen Biologie ausgezeichnet haben.
Da die Auszeichnung vorrangig der Nachwuchsförderung, der Stärkung von Interdisziplinarität und der langfristigen Vertiefung internationaler Kontakte dient, sollten die KandidatInnen im EU-Ausland bzw. in assoziierten Staaten in der akademischen Forschung tätig sein und in der Regel das 40. Lebensjahr noch nicht vollendet haben. Es wird erwartet, dass die Promotion nicht länger als 12 Jahre zurückliegt. Sollte eine Berufung auf eine permanente, leitende Position (Lehrstuhl, „Chair“, Abteilungsleitung in einem Institut etc.) bereits vorliegen, sollte der Dienstantritt nicht länger als drei Jahre zurückliegen. Eine Verleihung an in Deutschland tätige Wissenschaftler ist in Ausnahmefällen möglich, wobei die Aspekte Nachwuchsförderung, Interdisziplinarität und Internationalisierung eingehend zu begründen sind.
Der/die Preisträger(in) wird eingeladen, idealerweise im Anschluss an die Tagung Biochemistry 2024 der GDCh-Fachgruppe Biochemie vom 30.09.-02.10.2024 in Dortmund., an mindestens drei unterschiedlichen Orten in Deutschland einen wissenschaftlichen Vortrag zu seiner/ihrer Forschung zu halten.
Die Lectureship wird von der DECHEMA Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e.V., der Deutschen Pharmazeutischen Gesellschaft e.V. (DPhG), der Gesellschaft für Biochemie und Molekularbiologie e.V. (GBM) und der Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker e.V. (GDCh) mit insgesamt 2000 EUR zu gleichen Anteilen finanziert. Die Auswahl trifft der Beirat der gemeinsamen Fachgruppe Chemische Biologie der vier Gesellschaften.
