The 21st International Symposium on Industrial Crystallization is being held from 30th August to 2nd September 2021 now as online event.
Crystallization occurs in many natural physical, biological, and chemical systems, and is exploited in numerous applications, ranging from novel environmental and purification technologies to the production of bulk and fine chemicals, as agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, food ingredients and pigments. Active research is done on a broad range of subjects from fundamentals to industrial applications resulting in new findings, innovative processes and products.
Crystallization is a core process in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.
The ISIC (International Symposium on Industrial Crystallization) meetings, taking place every three years, provide a broad overview of the current science and technology of crystallization. This is where scientists and engineers of various disciplines, both academic and industrial, from all over the world meet, discuss their research and exchange ideas.
The conference will cover the following main topics:
• Fundamentals of crystallization
• Crystallization and precipitation in fine chemical, specialty & life-science industries
• Developments in large scale industrial crystallization
• Contributions of crystallization to sustainability
• Integrated process design: Crystallization in the industrial process chain
The 21st ISIC 2021 provides a meeting and a discussion forum for scientists and engineers from academia and industry as well as suppliers of crystallization and related analytical equipment.
We are looking forward to meet you at the 21st ISIC conference this year.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our life and actions, we have come to the decision to hold the 21st International Symposium on Industrial Crystallization (from August 30th to September 2nd, 2021) as an Online Event.
This appears to be the most rationale decision, though it is indeed painful. We feel that by deciding so early we will be able to organize a high quality and rewarding event nevertheless.
When preparing the detailed schedule of ISIC 21, we will do our best to consider the time lags between the whereabouts of our participants so as to enable an enjoyable and successful meeting with the colleagues from our crystallization community:
- We will have an attractive programme, with possibilities for personal exchange.
- Lectures will be given live.
- Posters will be presented as ePoster and web rooms will be generated for discussion.
- Wonder.me will be provided for additional networking.
On the positive side, the decision to hold an Online Event could attract a larger and broader audience, and might help particularly the younger researchers to attend.
We are very much looking forward to meeting you at this year's event – in a rather extraordinary style.
With kind regards
Heike Lorenz on behalf of the Organising Committee

Detailed Speaker and Poster Information |
---|
As we expect participants from different time zones, we would like to record your lecture and provide our participants with the opportunity to watch them at a later time. Please let us know in case you would not like your lecture to be recorded: ISIC congress office
- session lecture: 20 minutes excl. discussion time
- keynote lecture: 25 minutes excl. discussion time
- plenary lecture: 40 minutes excl. discussion time
After each session we have scheduled a Q&A session, where participants have the opportunity to discuss with the speakers. Please schedule this accordingly.
Strict timekeeping will be essential for the smooth running of the conference.
As an online meeting platform we use Converia's Virtual Venue and as presenting platform we use ZOOM. We recommend to download the ZOOM APP to share your presentation. We are planning test runs in the week before the conference. Detailed information will be sent to you in due time.
It is recommended to use Google Chrome or Firefox as your browser.
Please prepare your slides in 16:9 format.
In case you use special software for your presentation or if you have videos included into your file, a test run is obilgatory.
The poster presentation of latest results is an important facet of the scientific programme. The posters will be presented and numbered according to the final poster programme.
As a major guideline it is proposed to make the poster intelligible in itself, even in the absence of the author. It is suggested to divide the contents of each poster into introduction, results and conclusions, with a summary listing the pertinent results and conclusions.
Standard size for posters is 0.85 x 1.2 m (DIN A0-German Standard) vertically oriented. Therefore, please find the following specifications:
For the most effective and intensive discussion we recommend to initiate your individual virtual meeting room for the duration of the poster discussions.
Please enter your individual access link under your ePoster directly within the ‘Question & Answers‘ Area before the discussion starts. You can choose any virtual room you prefer.
Registration fee cannot be waived for authors. Please use the
online registration
Please note: To be included in the final programme your registration is obligatory. If you are unable to present your lecture or poster for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible via Email.
The organizers of 21st ISIC and DECHEMA, as non-profit organisation for chemical engineering and biotechnology experts, are dedicated to the development of innovation that contributes to sustainability and well-being. We are striving to minimize the environmental impact of our conferences. Therefore we have committed ourselves to an effective use of resources, careful planning of catering services as well as promoting sustainable modes of transport.
For the 21st ISIC which originally should take place in Potsdam/D in the year 2020 we had calculated the event-related emissions and DECHEMA already contributed a carbon offset in the amount of 861 € to the projects of Atmosfair gGmbH. These projects aim to reduce CO2 emissions and support sustainable development by transferring technology and combating poverty.
