This year´s Annual Meeting on Reaction Engineering will be held in Frankfurt. It offers scientists from industry, research institutions and universities the opportunity to discuss their work, learn about the latest developments and expand their network in person.
The detailed understanding of the processes within chemical reactors is key to innovation in modern industrial production. Developments in modern reaction engineering are nowadays used in chemical production, but also in neighboring areas of pharmaceutical production, energy supply, conversion, storage, materials science and many other fields of modern industrial society. Reaction engineering is contributing to the development of efficient, sustainable products, processes and services.
The meeting is organized by the DECHEMA Subject Division Reaction Engineering in cooperation with VDI-GVC.
We welcome contributions from all areas of reaction engineering. Additionally, we have chosen three focus topics for the annual meeting in 2023:
The broad use of research data in academic and industrial research represents an outstanding opportunity. With the NFDI initiative, the German Research Foundation (DFG) is funding the development of standardized tools for handling and analyzing large research datasets. Reaction engineering will benefit from this, if the tools will be used to a broad extend in the scientific community.
This subject is closely related to the second focus topic, which are new tools for developing models of complex reaction kinetics and novel approaches for their parameterization.
The third key topic will be the development of processes for the use of new, sustainable raw materials for chemical production and the essential contribution made by reaction engineering, which will make it possible to create new viable value chains.
Due to the international orientation of our meeting, presentations are held in English.
Three plenary lectures given by renowned scientists from industry and academic institutions, a poster party and a conference dinner will provide the framework for stimulating discussions and talks. We are looking forward to welcoming you in Frankfurt.

Dear lecture and poster authors, please note: Registration fee cannot be waived for authors. Please register online.
If you are unable to present your lecture for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible.
The official language of the conference is English. Simultaneous translation will be not available.
Each lecture is planned for a duration of 20 minutes plus 5 minutes for discussion. Strict timekeeping will be essential for the smooth running of the conference. We suggest to use a minimum font size of 24 pt for your presentation slides.
The ideal format for the presentation is 16:9. A notebook (MS Office 2010, Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3) and a wireless presenter will be provided. Please bring your presentation slides as PowerPoint or PDF-File on a USB stick. Nevertheless we kindly ask you to bring your own laptop computer as a backup.
In case that you need internet /special software for your presentation or if you have videos included into your file, please notify the conference secretariat in advance.
A brief CV questionary enables the appropriate chair person to introduce all lecturers to the audience. Therefore lecturers are asked to download the CV form and to return it to the conference office until 31st March.
The posters will be shown throughout the whole conference. Please hang up your poster at the beginning of the meeting on Monday, 15th May.
As a major guideline it is proposed to make the poster intelligible in itself, even in the absence of the author. It is suggested to divide the content of each poster into introduction, results and conclusion, with a summary listing the pertinent results and conclusion.
Standard size for posters is 0.85 x 1.2 m (DIN A0 German Standard) vertically oriented.
To ensure that the text is still legible from a distance of 2-3 m, the main text should be written in font size 25-30 pt, marginal information can be slightly smaller with font size 20-25 pt. The title of a poster must be readable from a distance of approx. 5 m (100-200 pt). Subtitles and headings in the text can be written in 50 pt font.
Traditionally there are awarded three Best Poster Prizes at each Annual Meeting. Last year, we also featured the "Young Talent Award" (sponsored by Clariant) for the first time.
The Best Poster Award, which is endowed with 300 € each, go to the following young scientists:
Hannes Stagge, University of Ulm for his poster on the topic “Identification of Kinetic Parameters for Microkinetic Models by Chemical Reaction Neural Networks (CRNNs)”.
Mira Zallmann, TU Dortmund for her poster on the topic “Model Based Reactor Optimization for a Heterogeneously Catalyzed Fast Highly Endothermal Reaction”.
Niklas Wessel, Max Planck Institute for Energy Conversion, Mülheim a.d. Ruhr for his poster on the topic “Tackling catalyst deactivation with spectroscopy in molecularly catalyzed reactions for constant product quality”.
The jury of the "Best Poster Award" statet that "the quality of all 94 presented posters was outstanding. It was quiet difficult to make a descision".
It was the same situation for the jury, consisting of representatives from the Early Career Reaction Engineers (NaWuReT), who debated for a very long time about the question who gave the best lecture and who should receive the "Young Talent Award".
The winner of the Young Talent Award 2023, which is endowed with 500 € and a free conference participation is:
Martin Kutscherauer, Clausthal University of Technology who presented on the topic “Improvement of pseudo-continuum reactor models for maleic anhydride production based on particle resolved CFD simulations”.
We wish you a lot of success for your further doctoral studies.
Especially in the uncertain Corona pandemic situation, we would like to offer you a carefree and safe stay at our conferences. Therefore we have developed a hygiene concept that incorporates the current recommendations and directives of the authorities.
After the termination of the Corona protection measures from legislation, the focus is now on each person's own responsibility not to expose themselves or others to any unreasonable risk of infection.
The most important points of the hygiene concept in brief:
The DECHEMA house, lecture hall and foyer for coffee/lunch break are regularly aired. Care is taken to clean and disinfect all areas.
The nearst corona test center is Test Mobil at Marriott Hotel (5 min walk from DECHEMA, opposite to Maritim Hotel)
Hamburger Allee 2, 60486 Frankfurt. In need of support please call +49 152 03018180.
