Namibia has one of the largest renewable energy potentials and is eager to leverage this potential through the production of green hydrogen. Within the framework of the GreeN-H2 Namibia project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, DECHEMA has published a report that places Namibia’s green hydrogen efforts into a global context.
Green hydrogen will be an important resource for a myriad of future sustainable industrial value chains. The report provides an overview of global hydrogen demands and Namibia’s goal of becoming a major green hydrogen exporter. It also includes developments in production costs for green hydrogen and measures for cost reductions.
Moreover, the report focuses on the impact of transport costs. Namibia’s potential off-takers are scattered across multiple continents, making long-distance transport unavoidable. Depending on the transport medium and the distance, the cost of imported green hydrogen or its derivatives can vary significantly.
Since numerous pilot projects have already started constructing their plants, the report also delves into the current situation and the planned production capacities.
