Call for nominations: DECHEMA Industrial Bioprocess Award

The DECHEMA working group “Biochemical Engineering“ focuses on the biotechnical production of fine and bulk chemicals as well as biopharmaceuticals by means of enzymes, prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells. The topics comprise the whole spectrum of modern biochemical engineering:

• from genes to products
• from μL to production scale
• from upstream to downstream

A distinct goal of the working party is the support of young scientists. Therefore, the inaugural “DECHEMA Industrial Bioprocess Award” will be presented to an outstanding PhD thesis in 2018. Young PhD students who have made industrially profound contributions during their theses are invited to apply for the award. Deadline for the submission of applications is 15 January 2018.

The award comes with €5,000 prize money and is being sponsored by the industrial members of the DECHEMA working party.

The following documents must be submitted with the application online dechema.de/en/bio_price.

• PhD thesis summary (one-page, English)
• Complete PhD thesis (English or German)
• CV (including a publication list)

Selection criteria:

• high relevance for industrial applicability is required
• the PhD thesis was completed in 2017
• the work must be of superior scientific quality indicated by summa cum laude or magna cum laude which equates to very good or excellent.
• quality and clarity of submitted work (one-page summary as well as complete thesis)
• willingness to give a presentation at the “Himmelfahrtstagung 2018”

Selection process:

Selection of candidates will be done by the industrial members of the “Biochemical Engineering” working group based on the submitted documents.

Award ceremony

Awards will be announced during the "Himmelfahrtstagung 2018". Winners are expected to give a presentation about the awarded topic.
