The “HIT” – Himmelfahrtstagung on Bioprocess Engineering – is a long-standing meeting point for the bioprocess engineering community in Germany. It brings together researchers, engineers, industry experts, and emerging talents to share new findings, discuss practical challenges, and shape the future of bioprocessing.

In 2027, the HIT will once again provide an open and collaborative forum for scientific exchange and professional networking. The conference welcomes contributions from academia and industry and offers a broad perspective on the technologies, methods, and concepts driving modern bioprocess engineering.

The scientific programme will address current topics across bioprocess engineering, including biopharmaceuticals and novel modalities, biocatalysis, integrated and continuous processing, digitalization, AI/ML and PAT, sustainable bioprocesses, cell factory engineering, scale-up and process robustness. An open topic will also welcome contributions beyond these areas.

The HIT is designed as an intensive single-track conference, allowing participants to follow the entire programme – from inspiring keynote lectures and scientific presentations to poster pitches and discussions. This format encourages exchange across disciplines and creates many opportunities to connect ideas that are often discussed separately.

A particular focus lies on supporting the next generation of bioprocessing experts. Early-career researchers are invited to present their work, engage with established scientists and industrial practitioners, and build lasting connections within the community.
The conference also welcomes applications for the
DECHEMA Industrial Bioprocess Award , which recognises outstanding achievements in industrial bioprocessing and includes prize money of up to €5,000.

Join us in Erfurt for HIT 2027 and be part of the conversation on the ideas, technologies, and processes shaping the next generation of bioprocess engineering.
