DECHEMA Medal for Thomas Bley

Prof. Dr. Thomas Bley, TU Dresden, has been awarded the DECHEMA Medal. The ceremony took place on 8 May 2018. With this award, DECHEMA recognizes his commitment to the bioprocessing community.

Thomas Bley has actively brought together industry and academia, young and experienced scientists and - in the course of Germany's reunification - experts from Eastern and Western Germany. In addition, he provided scientific impetus in numerous ways. The DECHEMA Medal is awarded for outstanding commitment to the realisation of DECHEMA's goals and extraordinary achievements in the field of chemical processing and biotechnology.

Thomas Bley has been involved in DECHEMA for many years, among others as chairman of the Bioprocessing Working Group from 2009 to 2014 and from 2013 to 2016 as a member of the Board of the DECHEMA Section on Biotechnology and has given active input to DECHEMA's work. One of his major concerns was to promote exchange within the community regardless of organizational borders. The focus of his work has been the development of mathematical models for the description of complex biotechnological cell-reactor-systems.
