New Bioprocesses, New Bioproducts is the topic for the next Himmelfahrtstagung, the most important meeting for bioprocess and biochemical engineers in Germany.
At the Himmelfahrtstagung 2021, we would like to take a look at the entire value chain of bioproduction, from innovative strain development methods to new prokaryotic and eukaryotic production strains, smart reactor concepts, and innovative downstream processing. We will discuss bioproduction processes for biopharmaceuticals and industrial biotech products.
Please note: Due to the current pandemic situation, the committee and the organizers have decided to hold the Himmelfahrtstagung as an online event and assume that this is also in the interest of all participants.
We would like to invite contributions from national and international groups, therefore all presentations are held in English. Even though contributions to the focus theme and input from young scientists are particularly solicited, other contributions to the broad field of bioprocess and bioproducts are also highly welcome.
Paper submission for oral presentations is possible until 22th January 2021. Afterwards posters can be submitted until 12 April 2021. The conference language is English.
The selection of the contributions will be based on the review of the abstracts by the scientific committee.
Please note: Registration fee cannot be waived for authors.

Young scientists who have made industrially significant contributions to bioprocess engineering during their PhD thesis are now invited to apply for the DECHEMA Industrial Bioprocess Award. The thesis should have been completed between December 2019 and December 2020. The deadline for applications is 15 February 2021.
The prize, which will be offered for the fourth time, comes with €5,000 prize money. It is sponsored by the industrial members of the DECHEMA working party "Bioprocess Engineering". The successful candidate will be awarded with the prize at the "Himmelfahrtstagung 2021" and is invited to give a presentation there.
Applicants are requested to submit a comprehensive summary of their work (approx. 2-3 pages). Based on this, a pre-selection of candidates will be made. The award committee will then review the full version of the PhD thesis and select a winner. Please also submit a current curriculum vitae for your application.
You can submit your documents here
DECHEMA working party “Biochprocess Engineering” focuses on the biotechnical production of fine and bulk chemicals as well as biopharmaceuticals with the help of enzymes, prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. The topics cover the entire spectrum of modern bioprocess engineering: from genes to products; from µL to production scale; from upstream to downstream.
Dear lecture and poster authors, please note: Registration fee cannot be waived for authors. Please use the online registration.
If you are unable to present your lecture for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible.
The official language of the conference is English. Simultaneous translation will be not available.
A brief CV questionary enables the appropriate chair person to introduce all lecturers to the audience. Therefore lecturers are asked to download the CV form and to return it to the conference secretariat by 19 April 2021.
A video projector and a notebook (Windows 10, MS Office 2016, Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3) will be provided. Please bring your lecture as PowerPoint or PDF-File on a USB stick. Nevertheless we kindly ask you to bring your own laptop computer as a backup.
In case that you need internet /special software for your presentation or if you have videos included into your file, please notify the conference secretariat in advance.
The abstract (incl. figures) should be typed single-spaced (12 pt Arial font or equivalent, 2.5 cm margins, page size A4) and should include the title, authors, their affiliations and addresses.
Please insert no headlines or page numbers. Before uploading the abstract plase deactivate the review mode.
|Keynote lecture:||45 minutes including 5 minutes time for discussion|
|Oral presentation:||30 minutes including 10 minutes time for discussion|
|Short lecture:||20 minutes including 5 minutes time for discussion (Open topic)|
Strict timekeeping will be essential for the smooth running of the conference.
We suggest to use a minimum font of 24 pt for your presentation slides.
As a major guideline it is proposed to make the poster intelligible in itself, even in the absence of the author. It is suggested to divide the contents of each poster into introduction, results and conclusions, with a summary listing the pertinent results and conclusions.
The poster should be legible from a distance of 2-3 meters. Standard size for posters is 0.85 x 1.2 m (DIN A0-German Standard) vertically oriented. Therefore, please find the following specifications:
The posters will be shown during the whole conference.
