Chemistry and chemical engineering are central topics, in which DECHEMA develops a wide range of activities. The spectrum covers classic topics such as chemical, mechanical and thermal process engineering as well as safety engineering, and also current developments such as modular plant concepts, process analytics, additive manufacturing, chemical energy research and the topic of sustainable chemical innovations. Aspects of education and training in chemical process engineering are also at the heart of our activities.
Experts from academic research, industry and public authorities are involved in over 90 thematic committees. There, experts exchange information on new trends, identify research needs and plan a wide range of activities such as events and publications in order to actively shape progress in their field.
Key events include the ACHEMA trade fair, which takes place every three years, and the DECHEMA Forum.

Cost Engineering for Modular Plants; September 2024
The joint position paper of the DECHEMA/VDI specialist groups ‘Cost Engineering’ and ‘Modular Plants’ describes definitions, evaluation criteria and examples for the economic and qualitative evaluation of three modular plant types based on hard criteria such as CAPEX, OPEX and time-to-market, but also qualitative factors that should play a role in the decision-making process. In addition to the paper, two specific calculation examples are also available as Excel files.

The brochure of the funding measure ‘Material Innovations for Healthy Living: ProMatLeben – Polymers’ provides an overview of the current research results of the ten joint projects within the funding measure. The work of the joint projects is summarised and insights into the respective research priorities of the participating project partners are provided. In addition, the activities of the expert advisory group for the accompanying measure ‘ProMatLeben-WIN’ and the project work on the sustainability of polymers in medicine are presented.
Roadmap „Chemical Reaction Engineering“; September 2023
The Roadmap on Chemical Reaction Engineering was developed by experts of the DECHEMA/VDI Subject Division "Chemical Reaction Engineering" and presents the current fields of work in chemical reaction engineering. It specifies the need for research and illustrates this via case studies.
This 3rd edition of the Roadmap has been completely revised, putting more focus on three main trends in Technical Chemistry and Process Engineering.
